Nevada’s Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP)

Created in 1997, the Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) is a database that contains information regarding the controlled substance prescriptions that are dispensed to patients in Nevada. The database is a resource and tool that allows healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, dentists, physician assistants, pharmacists, and others to gain a better understanding of a patient’s controlled substance prescription history and needs prior to prescribing or dispensing the controlled substance prescription to the patient. The PMP is an important tool that helps practitioners combat the prescription drug epidemic. The PMP is managed by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy, and currently 49 out of 50 states have PMP databases that serve this purpose.
